About Our Animals

Growing up with animals is the most wonderful thing. What would we do without them? I learned to knit and thought that it would be really neat to have angora rabbits. With the little space I had in our back yard, they were the perfect animal for us to add. I was able to get two mixed angora bunnies from a lady and instantly fell in love with their wooly personalities. After doing some research I came to the conclusion that the German and German Hybrid angoras were really what would work best for what I was wanting; animals that produces a lot of high quality fiber, and have great personality. Since purchasing my first two Germans I am more and more convinced that my research has paid off. They have more then paid for themselves and fed my fiber hobby well.  My husband would testify and so would my basement.  I would love to share with you how they can work for you.

Cade Cadence: is always looking for a good massage at the door.  He has a nice body with a good set of shoulders.  When I sheer him I am always impressed again by the amount of crimp he has.  He is a REW (Red Eyed White) 100% German Buck.
Symphony Symphony: is a little more stand offish then her sister, but is still a nice girl.  She produces lots of great fiber and her mothering skills are excellent.  She is a REW Hybrid 98.5% German doe.  Her last clip was 368 total grams (13 oz).  Born June 2, 2006
Bokertove Bokertove:  Doesn't she look like her mom (above).  Here she is with Belle sharing a little girl time.  I was recently rewarded with 1 full lb from her last sheering.  She is also one of the most elegant does I own.
Rigel Rigel: Came form Bungalow Farms in CA.  I really enjoy him.  He is so silly and a very busy boy.  He is a beautiful guy and he knows it.  And although he has a white spot his last clip was 354 total grams (12.5 oz).  Not too bad.  Thanks Erin.
Skeins Skeins:  Madame Skeinsovit, is full of it just like her dad.  She is a sturdy girl.  I am very pleased with her fiber.     Rigel x Bobbin

Belle Belle:  showing her good side.  Actually she doesn't have a bad side just an ear that shows the character of what is inside.  She is very inquisitive.  I really like her!  Her 90 day clip revealed 380 g of beautiful long fiber.
Muffin Muffin: only 50% German is my little spot of color in the mix of black or white.  Her picture says it all.  "Treats, mom?"  I don't get much fiber from her and mostly keep it to mix with.  Her pretty mascara eyes make her quite the lady.

Research, Research, Research!! Do your homework before you buy. Be prepared to invest your time in any animal you consider purchasing.  This list by no means exhausts all that you should do for your bunnies, but are key points for more research, and before getting your own bunny.

  • All animals need lots of clean fresh water.
  • Do your research about what foods are available in your area.  Along with a good quality rabbit pellet I also give my bunnies hay to prevent wool block (hairballs for rabbits).
  • Cage space and shelter adequate to your specific area.  Taking equal consideration for the cold and the heat.
  • Time to sheer each bunny every 90 days.  Time to enjoy and get to know what is normal for your bunny.
  • Worming on a regular basis.
  • Treats and TLC to help them produce to their fullest potential.

Pleasant Hills Farms is striving to breed hardy, stylish, well covered goats. We have a small herd consisting of quality colored and white angoras.  I love these goats for their quirky personalities who suit me just fine.  The bucks are always full of themselves, but are gentle and easy going herd sires.  The does are protective mothers, but are gentle with the other kids.  And the kids are just tooo much fun!  Aside from individual personalities each animal has a fiber quality all it's own.  Whether open or flat lock, smooth, silky, soft, and dense they rarely have a bad hair day!

    Bucks on the Hill

mobie Mobi : 2002 Reg. crème dark belly.  Mobi is everything I want in a buck, he makes gorgeous kids that turn into does with incredible fiber. He has great conformation, personality, and fiber, still soft and silky and OHH those beautiful blue eyes!  He has certainly put his stamp of approval in our herd.  Thank you for being such a country gentleman.  CSPN Wolf x CH Victoria
    Red Lips
    Red Lips:  DOB  11/30/07
A new little buck on the Hill.  His fiber is gorgeous and only 4 mo old, it is soft, silky and dense, I can't wait to get my clippers on this guy.  He has a very laid back & sweet attitude, which fits in well around here.  Ian (red) X Gemini (red)

     Girls of Pleasant Hill

jill Jill: 2005 Registered by inspection black doe.  One of the lovely does Lil has blessed us with.  Her silvery dense fiber is just one the reasons she passed her inspection with flying colors.    HRF Karlton  x Lil
Lucy Lucy:   3/2006, "I love Lucy",  she is such a sweet doe, and has the most wonderful fiber as well.  She tends to be on the portly side, so that fits right in with the herd.  She is another Lil daughter.  Gotta love that goat!     Mobi x Lil
Lil Lil: Sweet old red doe.  Not sure where she came from or her age, but she has a knack of producing wonderful kids that turn into great does.  We have retained several in the herd.  Their fiber is lustrous, with incredible density and character.  Whether its white or colored its the first to sell every time!  Thanks Lil for staying with us ~
    Sugar

Sugar:  Pictured here at OFFF where she took Reserve Champion.

Gemini Wildwood Goat Co Gemini:  is lovely 2001 red doe with dense soft fiber. She has a loose type lock and has more facial hair but I like my goats to see!  She is a great mother, kidding in Nov after having her for just 4 days.  But she has fit right in and we expect wonderful fiber as well as kids from her.
    Abby

Abby: is a "big red 2002 doe"  she has substance as well as lovely fiber.  Her fleece is a looser type lock, and she has plenty. You would have to look hard to find any kemp on this doe.  She also kidded a few days after we got her and gave us a lovely belted doe ling.  She definitely has an "Alpha" type personality, which is fun because you know exactly where she stands!  You can see Abby and Geminis kids on the sale page.

    Tululah
Talulah:  This lovely silvery black 2003 doe comes from Toni Selk.  She has a loose lock, great for doll hair, and is soft, silky and dense.  She is a bit aloof, which makes for just another distinct personality in the group. She is very easy to be around.   She is very correct with strong legs and great feet.

Research, Research, Research!! Do your homework before you buy. Be prepared to invest your time in any animal you consider purchasing.

    • Before you bring home your angora goat make sure your fencing is adequate. Goats love to expand their horizons, and may impose themselves on your neighbors and their prized rose bushes. At the first drop of rain your goats will head for shelter it’s important to have plenty of sheltered space for each animal.
    • Make sure that fresh water is always available.
    • Salt is a must.
    • Feeding good quality hay will result in good quality fiber. Doing you research in this area will greatly benefit your animals and give you piece of mind. There is a never ending battle between the hay and the fleece but careful placement and good feeders can minimize this problem. You will find what works best for your animals.
    • A little about grain. I don’t feed much. It’s used as enticement and treats on our farm.
    • This is what has worked for me and my herd hopefully these guidelines are helpful for you.
    • The F.A.Q page will have additional information.
    • Feel free to call or e-mail any time with any questions.  I am more than willing to share any information that will help you with quality care for your animals.
